Based on the diaries of Maria Mariana, which also inspired a play, best-selling book and television series, the film follows sisters Tina (Sophia Abrahão), Bianca (Bella Camero), Alice (Malu Rodrigues) and Karina (Clara Tiezzi) through their rites of passage. When their father (Cássio Gabus Mendes) informs them that they will need to move from their apartment in Barra da Tijuca (Rio's West Zone) due to an excessive increase in rent, the girls promise to save more money and help with household chores in an attempt to reverse the decision. The presenter introduces Chico and we learn from him that Chico was born in 1910 in Pedro Leopoldo a small town; that he has been psychographing several books since 1927 and with the money he earned from the selling of the books he opened a Communion Center that helps sick, old and starving poor people. Then, the film goes back and forth to Chico's childhood in Sao Leopoldo and to the TV show. When Chico was about 7 after his mother died he lived with his godmother, Rita for a while. It was a difficult period because the boy used to see and talk to spirits, including his mother. Rita used get very upset about it and used to beat and torture the child. One day finally his father takes him to live with him, his brothers and sisters and his new wife, Cidalia. When his new stepmother sees the bruises she promises Chico that no one will ever beat him again. A great friendship with Cidalia begins. Throughout the film we see many situations such as a teacher that could not believe that his composition was dictated to him, a widow of a famous writer that had prosecuted him and many journalists who had persecuted him his whole life. The film tells the story of his life, which was a life devoted to the poor and shows how he became well known and loved throughout the country.
