The Angels are not "hired" exactly; Sabrina is forced to put on a belt loaded with explosives, and if the rubies are not recovered within twelve hours, the belt will set off by remote control. The designer of this belt is the one who masterminded the jewel theft, a psychotic electronics wizard named Dinsmore. From the crazy look in his eye, the Angels decide they better do as he says, so Kris and Kelly go out looking for Murdoch. Since Dinsmore shot him in the back as he was running away, they check the hospital first , but after the bullet was removed, Murdoch left in a hurry in order to sell the rubies. Charlie locates two men who helped the crooks steal the gems and who may be of use, if they can be forced to talk. Joining the team is only a cover, but Sabrina displays such good form that Julia Smyth invites her to play for the Panthers. Julia's only concern is winning, and her players are rough and well trained. More interestingly to Sabrina, Julia rides a motorcycle. But whether or not the Angels solve the mystery, Sabrina is so disgusted by Julia's "win-at-any-cost" attitude that she is determined to help Amy's team defeat the Panthers. Kelly meets a sad person named Joe Phillips in the parking lot, and they go out for dinner. Joe is a former football star whose injured knee forced him to retire, and now he feels like only half a man. Joe does not seem involved with the recent trouble, and Kelly grows tired of hearing how sad his life is. By locating all the local dealers who sell a certain kind of motorcycle, the Angels find the two that were used to scare the players, and driving away in a truck is none other than Joe Phillips. Furthermore he has taken blueprints of the stadium with him, as though he needed to know how to gain entry into rooms that would be locked, like the room where the stadium's safe is kept. Down on the field, Sabrina realizes that one of her teammates is Julia's spy and is secretly telling the Panthers what plays to expect. Using this knowledge, Sabrina outsmarts the cheaters, by calling one play and then running a different one. Catching crooks is the Angels' job, but winning this game is very satisfying. Charlie provides Bosley with a Model T Ford so he can enter the competition, and the, three Angels all pretend to be reporters working on stories. The lab analysis indicates that the tire track could have been left by only four of the antique cars. One of these is owned by Mrs. Martha Milton, a middle-aged woman with whom Bosley is immediately on very friendly terms. One of the others, the 1936 Dodge that we recognize as the one used in the crime, is being worked on by two friendly mechanics, Marshall and Hendricks. But watching them as they talk to "reporter" Kris is Greeves, the man who has been driving the Dodge earlier that day. The Angels, knowing when the crime took place, are trying to establish the time when the contestants checked into the rally, since anyone who arrived early in the morning could not be guilty. Greeves is very worried since he knows that his late arrival was covered up by a $500 payment to the official who agreed to doctor the check-in list. He overplays his hand by killing the official in the hope that it will protect his secret. Kris now knows exactly which car the criminals are associated with, but by snooping too much she is captured and forced to ride with Greeves in the race. After accusing her of killing his wife, Tom Grainger and his two grown children kidnap Kris. Suspecting that something is wrong when she finds Kris' abandoned car, Eleanor Willard, a registered psychic who has frequently helped the police, tracks down Kelly, Julie, and Bosley and takes them to the spot where she senses that something violent has occurred. So, with too little time to pursue any other leads, the two worried Angels and their skeptical sidekick must trust this stranger's instincts. Told by Grainger's son, Ted, that after she arrested his mother for prostitution in San Francisco three years ago, she killed herself in her jail cell. Kris wonders why the late Mrs. Grainger wasn't with her family in Hawaii. After failing to escape, watching Ted think long and hard about letting her go before alerting his father and sister helps Kris realize that his mom, Mrs. Grainger, fled to escape her abusive husband. However, while Ted admits that his father is violent, he doesn't believe that he would really kill Kris. Meanwhile, as Eleanor finds an old copy of Hansel and Gretel among Kris' belongings, Kelly confirms that she considered the childhood book a good luck charm. With her friends relying on Eleanor's visions to uncover her whereabouts, Kris kicks her purse out of the truck as a clue and, recalling Hansel and Gretel, subtly opens a salt bag in order to leave a white line on the road for them to follow. As Kelly tries to calm a worried Julie and thank her for showing so much concern for someone she barely knows, they find the discarded purse. Meanwhile, once Ted realizes that his father actually intends to kill her, Kris confronts Grainger, insisting that not only is she not responsible for his wife's death, but that he is really to blame for abusing her. As Grainger gets drunk and tries to argue that he treated his wife fairly, Kris knocks his gun to the floor and escapes. When Ted tries to help her, his dad shoots out the tires of their car. The Angels are called in to investigate, when Tom Archer, who owns a cab company with his wife Laurie, is badly burned as his cab explodes. Laurie Archer reveals that they have been getting threatening phone calls and someone obviously is trying to put them out of business. Kris takes a job as a waitress across the street from the cab garage. Julie becomes a driver and Kelly, a dispatcher. Two employees, Jake Barnett, ex-con, and Sarge, a shell-shocked hallucinating casualty of World War II, are both under suspicion. It seems Tom Archer had fired Sarge and advised him to go to the V.A. hospital for treatment. Later, Julie's cab catches fire and she and her passenger escape just in time. Jake advises Julie that Sarge's ex-wife was killed by a cab and he is starting the fires to put Tom and Laurie's cab company out of business. The Angels go to Sarge's room, but he escapes through a window, goes up on the roof, and tries to jump to the next building. He misses and is killed. The Angels then find out that Sarge's wife was not killed by a cab. Instead, the woman who Jake lived with was the victim of the accident. Julie takes Jake out in her cab with a tape recorder on -- the others listening -- and gets Jake to admit that he is really the guilty one. He takes off in the cab -- Kris arrives and she and Julie pursue him and trap him at the Los Angeles River. The other Angels praise Julie for her driving expertise and she admits she learned it from an old boyfriend in her neighborhood who drove stolen cars.
